Joanna Appel Art

Painter and Graphic Artist

I make bold-colored, textured, paintings with collage, acrylic and oil paints, carrying a deeper spiritual meaning based upon my Christian faith. I endeavor to communicate the love of God and his amazing nature through each piece, capturing divine moments found in the Bible that draw people into a conversation about faith.

I start each painting with prayer and an under-painting of scripture. I use collage material, often pages of the Bible, containing relevant scripture passages to augment the message of the painting and create interesting textures. Using diluted acrylics as a base and oils to finish, my paintings are a combination of both abstract and realistic imagery with enticing textures.

My hope is that my work draws people in to a divine moment, bypassing the loud voice of logic in the head and has a direct impact on the heart and spirit, communicating the truth and love of God.
